Genuine Mitsubishi SPIII is the fluid we recommend for all Montero and Montero Sport Automatic Transmissions (other than the 83-86 Gen1 3 speed.) This includes models that might call for a version of Dexron in the owner's manual. Gen3 Monteros in particular are very picky and we've seen more than one transmission ruined by using non OEM fluid.
*Aisin and other brands now have SPIV fluid available and it is said to be backwards compatible but we'll be sticking with the tried and true SPIII until Mitsubishi advises otherwise.
