If your Montero is equipped with rear climate control then there is a large jumble of coolant hoses going back to the rear heater blower motor. They are located underneath the car, on the passenger side, next to the transmission. Now that the newest Gen3 in the USA is over 15 years old, the plastic T pipe connectors are likely old and brittle. Preventatively replacing them with these new Genuine OEM T pipes provides a solid piece of mind because if one of these Ts breaks it will not just drain the coolant going to the rear heater, but the entire vehicle's coolant which could cause the engine to overheat and costly cylinder head repairs.
CAUTION: We strongly advise against replacing these with the cheap Dorman or other big box auto parts store generic T connectors. We've experienced first hand and have heard from several others who have had those cheaper plastic ones break within a year or two.
Some people prefer to replace these with brass 3/4" T connectors from your local hardware store for increased durability. The only issues with this is that the coolant hoses vary in size that connect to the T so you'll need to use some kind of PTFE tape to ensure a snug fit. Additionally, brass conducts heat so those rubber hose ends touching the T pipe may experience more degradation over time. We figure if the original OEM ones lasted over 15 years then they've proven themselves.
